So I’ve been home for almost 2 weeks and I’m still thrilled about being back in the States. Sorry, French friends, but there was no “period of reintegration” for me. I was just too happy to be back. Anyway, today I’m leaving for one of my life trips. I’ve packed my car, I’ve got my LonelyPlanet USA, there’s snacks for the road…. I’m going on a road trip!
You see, I’ve always wanted to see Mount Rushmore and the Grand Canyon. But I’m from the East Coast and have family only on the two American coasts, so I’ve never had the chance to really explore the midwest (or anything landocked state!).
Below is my plan. I’m pretty sure it’s going to change, a lot, as we go along. But I’m flexible – Mom is flexible – and I just wanna travel! I’m going to see family, I’m going to get coffee and food with friends along the way – it should be a wicked good time.
You can see my planned itinerary at my TravellersPoint site.
Now the obvious questions in your mind must be, “Dear lord, Minh, are you really going to do all of this in your summer? How much time are you spending on this road trip?” The answer to the first question is a resounding YES! But the second question is a little bit more difficult to answer.
Today is Thursday, June 16, 2011. I have to report to campus for orientation on Monday August 15, 2011. The current plan is to be back in Maryland around August 1st, which should give me some time to get back into school mode. I think that gives me 6-ish weeks of travel and 2 weeks of R&R.
As for my blog, well, I’m not sure if I’ll have the time or energy to post frequently, but I promise to do a full review of my trip once I’m back in Maryland. I’ll try to blog occasionally from the road whenever I can find some wifi!
So, dear readers, if you have any suggestions on things to do/places to see/great restaurants please let me know! Or, tell me about your experiences traveling by car. Have you ever gone on a cross country road trip?
