Autumn is the most beautiful season.

I’ve been terrible at blogging lately- I sadly have no excuse except that I’ve been insanely busy starting medical school. I promise to do better though and finish blogging up my summer trip! There are so many photos to go through and stories to tell. But today, I want to tell you about a little trip I took last weekend to the Shenandoah Mountains in Virginia.

I’ve already told you about the Shenandoah Mountains, back in July. These mountains are only a 2-3 hour drive from Maryland where I live so we decided to come back for a day in October in order to marvel at the fall landscape and the changing colors of autumn over the Shenandoah Valley and Shenandoah River.

Year after year, the Shenandoah do not disappoint. This shot of me was taken along Skyline Drive, the winding 100 mile drive through the mountains.

The wildflowers are still in bloom, making one last hurrah before the ice of winter settles down.

We picked a great day to explore the mountains. Rays of sun dappled through the trees, illuminiating the colors and casting shadows over the leaves that had fallen to the ground.

We decided to do a little hike up one of the mountains. This was the view at >4000 feet.

There was a little pool of water nestled in a rocky hollow.

And oh! the colors were too magnificent for words to describe. Golden yellow leaves and brown bark,

ruby reds and bright yellows,

yellow greens and yellow oranges,

all against a bright blue sky. Nature really does well with its complementary colors.

We stayed until the sunset.

I already can’t wait to go back.
